Review Weltwoche

Review by Sasch Mathys

The band was better than I expected (heard some recordings and read many reviews), I got to like Stu and Donnie. The only one who didn't please was Denny, too much "children's" soloing on the slow numbers. He really has his own kind of spastic phrasing at times, but hey, maybe that's just me. On some of the bluesier and more rockin' numbers, he managed to pull off some nice licks anyway. But it would've been nice to hear some more solos from Stu. He seems to have primarily taken over the role of rhythm guitarist now, contrary to the first tour with Larry (where I'd rather have heard some more solos from THE MAN - still sad he left!).

Review by Marco Mazzotti
I was really impressed by Freddy Koella, whom I heard for the first time. Of course the others in the band are terrific, but this is no news. It's amazing, how different the sound and the rendition of many songs are with respect to last year. This is of course due to the new guitar player, and to the fact that Bob Dylan plays only the electric piano and a lot of harp. I am not saying it is better or worse; I am just saying it is different and it is extremely interesting to experience all these differences. The sound is very different; it is more electLet me say a few words about Bob Dylan himself, keeping in mind what he said in the 2001 interview to Rolling Stone answering a question about his personal habits and their influence on his music: "But the truth is, it's my job to drive my own car, if you know what I mean. It's not somebody else's job." Bob Dylan emanated a great energy while singing and playing, and exhibited full control on the band (I disagree with some of the reviews I read about previous concerts and his lack of control). Maybe the phrasing was not always accurate, but this impression might also be due to the sound, as mentioned above.

Review by Jeam Marin Büttner

The concert definitely had its moments of brilliance or at least very good performances and went down well with the croud who received Dylan back with an standing ovation . "Solid Rock" was low and humming in a sinister kind of way; "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You" had the dreamy feeling of his '65 brand of R'n'B. "Not Dark Yet" sounded used but ironically benefitted form it. "Cold Irons Bound" was fantastically arranged; I rarely heard him play it so hard before.

Review by Mike Willys
Then…the first song which REALLY got me tonight…. Delia! Unbelievable! I could not believe it!! I recently have just been back home to Australia where my cache of CD's live, and Delia was the song I was playing almost all the time I was there. And I got it live! The crowd acted a bit stunned, obviously didn't recognize, but I was in 7th heaven. I can never believe how Bob makes me sad for Delia, but also sad for Curly. It was a GREAT performance and afterwards I told my kid, That's why Bob is King. He sang the line "All the friends I ever had are gone" and I thought of dear Rick, and I am SURE Bob was thinking of him too.

Review by Carsten Wohlfeld

Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right (acoustic) Long discussion before the song and thank god, they decided not to play „Blowin’" This was an okay performance, and the ‘highlight’ was Bob’s sole harp solo of the night. Nothing special, but hey, he was blowin’ the friggin’ thing and that alone almost made some hippies cry :-) More discussions between Bob and Tony and everybody looked slightly confused... then Bob stepped up to the microphone and said something like: „I wanna introduce a couple of guests, the guitar players from Bruce Springsteen... Steven Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren" (who were appearing with Bruce in Zurich the next day).
