Review by Andrew Maccallum

I don't know what it is about Wellington, but as in 2003 Bob put on a stellar performance. Maybe it's because Wellington is a city full of committed musos - who knows? The thing that was different from Christchurch was that the audience was "on" from before the show even started, and so Bob was "on" as well. Highlights - Lay Lady Lay was very seductive. My back Pages was intense with a three note riff on the harp to close it out. Nettie Moore was beautifully sung and tonights Ballad of a Thin Man ranked among the great performances of this song with a committed harp to finish off. Bob was in fine voice and sang very carefully throughout. Denny was really doing the business tonight and got 4 or 5 cheers after solos. It was a great concert. Christchurch was a 5 and half. This was a 10.

Review by Derek Jacombs

Honest With Me rocked with a vengence and - again - Bob nailed every word this time. Then there was a slight pause so I yelled out "Floater" (was going to call for Sugar Baby, but I really didn't think Bob would do anything too slow from his mood). And, bugger me, he looked at me, and then PLAYED IT. OK he was probably going to anyway, but I was buzzed. Especially as it was a simply stunning version. Great care and poise in the lyrics and... just incredible. Band intro time and Bob started with "Larry Campbell on the lap steel, and electric guitar and...er, oh, that other thing" (mucho laughter from the rhythm section). On George he said " George Recelli on the drums - snare drum and kick drum." Then Summer Days - better than Auckland - the same wildness but still a measure of over-the-top-control. Perfect. And, again, Billy played a kick-ass solo - actually stepped up centre stage and just nailed it. And Bob loved it too. You could see him grin at Billy and react by amping up his playing another notch. Seemed to go on a while too. Really really good. At the end as they were assembling for the formation Bob and George were laughing together. It seemed a much happier formation than Auckland...

Review by Rob Zorn

Some young guy shoots up onto the stage and heads straight for Bob at speed. he makes it through two security tackles, and is stopped about a foot short of Bob by a big bouncer. Probably meant no harm, but could have hurt anyone because of the speed at which he was travelling. He's manhandled off the stage and out, and it hurts him. I can tell. Beginning to understand better why security is often so tight, though I think it's easy to tell the difference between a lunger like that and someone who just wants to do the swim. Later the stage lunger is outside on the roof of the gantry over the entrance prancing around like Mick Jagger with a pretend microphone. We see him as we're leaving. He doesn't look well.
