Reno Gazette Jour

Review by James Strohecker
There were a few re-arranged clunkers in the show. And Highway 61 was one.
It didn't work. Bob has created a new arrangement based on the rhythm guitar and
not the lead. As a result the song sounded more downbeat, bluesy and flat. Not
wild, or upbeat ' "OUT ON HIGHWAY 61!!!!" like you'd expect. During the song,
Bob was pointing to Stu a couple times to crank it up - but to no avail. The band
didn't get it. It was an interesting arrangement but it didn't work on the crowd in
Reno. People wondered, "Was that the same song that I've heard before?" Well . . .
yes and no. Clearly, this is one song that needs refinement for the tour.

Review by David Link

What struck all of us right away was the sound quality.....PERFECT!!! You could
hear every note of every instrument, and Bob's voice....Crystal Clear!!!!! The
combo of him being totally into every word of every song, along with a seemingly
reconfigured speaker set-up by the edge of the stage made this the cleanest Dylan
show I have witnessed. I have no doubt of this fact. Others in the room may have
thought differently, but no one I talked to. Everyone mentioned the uncanny ability
to hear and understand every word he was singing. Like I say, I think this was due
to much better sound and totally focused and disciplined singing.

Review by Andy Goldstein

Solid spot on performance. Standard setlist. I saw 3 songs I never saw before (Long Black Veil/Country Pie/Things Have Changed) which is a feat considering the number of shows I've seen....most likely over 200). Somebody Touchjed me was much tighter than I had seen it last summer and I found myselgf grinning from ear to ear. Long Black Veil was much like the other time he had done it in 97 I think. He really sang it with passion Master of War (not my favorite song) was energized. I really like Country Pie but thought the band needs to work on the ending. Serve Somebody's new arrangement was cool. At first I thought it may have been a re-worked man of peace.....I dont Believe U was really strong. The new arrangement for Drifter escape worked very well....Things have changed-> (the live version really sounds like it was on Time Out of mind) just made my nite.

Review by David Link

The second show was once again filled with surprised. Roving Gambler was appropriate as the theater is in a casino resort. It's Alright was a pleasure with his phrasing and eyebrow moves. Maggie's was great to hear again, its been along time, and Long Black Coat was very sinister and bluesy. The harp finally came out on Blowin', and only for a short time.

Review by Jacki Pajas

Bob opened the first show with Duncan and Brady, and my mouth just dropped open. I was so elated. Of course, you have already seen the setlists, so I won't go on and on about how amazing it is that Bob is pulling out so many old and obscure jewels. For me, it was a taste of heaven to hear all these different songs....'nuff said about the setlists.
