Review by Bourine

There’s something happening here and you don’t know what it is, do you, Mr. Jones? That describes the crowd at the Dylan show in Pittsburgh. They were all Mr. Jones. Talking loudly, playing with their cell phones, not really listening to anything other than what they may remember vaguely in a song; they were clueless. They were all probably from England, too. I ran into a guy on the street who claimed that the lead singer to some band going on right before Dylan was a genius. I think he got that one wrong too. They wouldn’t recognize a genius if he explained the secrets of the pyramids to them. The whole scene was wrong, except for Dylan who came out playful and alive with Rainy Day Women, who spoke about a love gone wrong with It Ain’t Me Babe, who intermixed swinging ballads like Spirit On the Water and Beyond the Horizon, with masterpieces like It’s All Right Ma and Ballad of a Thin Man. But this young hip-less crowd of wanna be rock and rollers only came to hear lines like the president of the United States must have to stand naked; now that relates somehow. It must have made ‘em  feel like real Liberals. Liberals or not, it made them put down their cell phones and shut up for a second. Dylan and the band gave an excellent show in spite of the crowd. Let’s get back to the Stanley Theater, or since it’s gone, some other place where people actually come to listen.

Review by Richard Yanzewski
Beyond the poor acoustics of the arena the audience was horrible!! I assumed Dylan would attract an older audience but being on Pitt's campus the crowd was mostly students and of course all people that age apparently have A.D.D. I'll never understand why people want to pay $50 plus for a ticket and talk and play with their cell phones. The idiot in front of me was playing soccer on his cell phone. STAY HOME!! Turn the cell phones off. That bright glowing screen is actually annoying!!! And since the arena was half empty people could not sit still. The three young co-eds next to us would get calls and all three of them had to get up and march out and then come back in and get another call and go back out. It was a hive mentality in action. People came and went from our section all night. Now I can see trying to move down but why would anyone sneak into sec 208 in the upper deck??? Since the crowd was sparse there were no ushers in the upper deck at all. It was pretty much general admission seating and no matter where we moved three idiots would plant themselves behind us and run their mouths.

Review by Bill Huggins
After attending a show in Columbus on November 4th, where Bob orchestrated a little more than usual, it was refreshing to see that tonight the band required little if any direction from the legendary performer. As the show went on, I was rewarded with an excellent performance of both Positively 4th Street and Watching the River Flow.

Review by Lola
Wow! This was my sixth show and defintely the best. I'm not one to report back saying "Ooooh Dylan was super as always"- I admit he's sometimes off mark. This show was incredible. The venue was the smallest I've been too, and packed. The energy of the crowd was really great, save a few older folks who sat with hands folded in their seats and complained "This isn't how he sounded 25 years ago!" Dylan on the piano is a wonderful thing to witness. He obviously loves it and pounds the keys while moving his legs in that Bob way. He was in a great mood, saying "Thank Yoooooooou" after the first song and, at the end of the show for the formation, he really looked appreciative (usually, at least to me, he looks either pissed or embarrassed), taking a moment to look around at each section of the audience and pointing with his guitar as we cheered. He of course came back for the encore but a lot of us thought he'd come back for a second- everyone was cheering for a long, long time after he and the band left.

Review by Antonio Termi
Duncan and Brady was as usual, but then Tambourine was totally different from any other Tambourine I have assisted to: Larry was playing the tune using chords instead than single notes while Bob was singing changing as usual the melody. I think that what Larry was doing was extremely difficult and shows what a good guitar player he is, but the whole thing was ruined by an absurd rythm and it sounded to me as a german military music.

Review by Carsten Molt
Mr. Tambourine Man(acoustic)- One of my favorite tunes sung with a hypnotic slowness that brought many cheers from the enthralled audience. Dylan cocked his head to one side during the verses as if to recall the emotions he felt when he wrote this gem so many years ago.

Tombstone Blues - This was played loud and fast and totally redeemed the minor disappointment of ‘Shelter". Charlie Sexton and Larry Campbell were both given ample room to play some great guitar leads. Sexton definitely seems to be the lead guitarist now that Campbell sems to be filling in the color that was missed when Bucky Baxter left this spring.
