Review by

But then Bob wandered away from the organ, harp in hand, for an INCREDIBLE version of "Forgetful Heart." Live premiere! Score! And not just any live premiere, but a fantastic one. Bob stayed on center stage (no one played the organ/accordion part), playing harp between verses, while the band set out a stark, acoustic arrangement that sort of called to mind "What Was it You Wanted." This was a cut above the album version - can't wait for the mp3. It was one of those moments (and performances) you pray for when you go to show after show (Mike and I have both cut back, but more moments like this might have has both hitting the pawn shop and scraping up cash for more shows, just like in our college days).

Review by Jerry Spanbauer

Bob had several unique organ runs throughout the evening and took a surprising amount of solos. The "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" run in particular was fantastic and had me laughing for several minutes. -Tons of harp with sharp, committed solos. -Sometimes we take the outstanding rhythm section work by Tony and George for granted. Every time we see Bob we get fixated in particular by Tony's fine musicianship. -There were some fantastic guitar figures on "Lonesome Day Blues" with Denny achieving a unique and successful sound unlike anything I've ever heard. -"Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum" featured the center stage Bob and his interesting gyrations. -Another crazy rearrangement of "Tangled Up In Blue" that had it's moments. This is one in particular that I miss Bob's guitar on but it's a great song nonetheless in any guise. -Very solid "Love Sick" and "Highway 61 Revisited" -"Ain’t Talkin’" didn't grab me live as much as I thought it would. -The band achieved highs on "Summer Days" that I thought this band was incapable of a few years ago. They've really found their voice and had many memorable exchanges throughout the evening. -Bob talk: something to the effect of "thank you, friends" and a full band introduction. -Very solid show that probably didn't change anyone's life but was quite enjoyable. We'd like to see Bob pay more attention to his undervalued 70's and 80's catalogue. One 70's song and no 80's songs is an outrage! Songs I'd like to see Bob get back to or take a go at (to name a few): New Morning, Time Passes Slowly, Going, Going, Gone, I And I, Slow Train, Meet Me In The Morning, New Pony, Shot Of Love, Groom's Still Waiting At The Altar, Sweetheart Like You, Never Gonna Be The Same Again, and Man In A Long Black Coat. I'd also love to see him take a stab at "Girl From The Red River Shore."

Review by Scott Reath

While both shows were excellent, my feeling is that the superior second show was right up there with UW-Oshkosh last November Election Night....a show that I will always hold in the utmost high regard among any rock concerts I've ever attended. With the sad departure of Larry Campbell (all good things must come to an end I suppose), I approached these shows cautiously, knowing full well that even under the best of circumstances, it can take 10-15 shows to work the awkward kinks out of a new band.

Review by Adam Selzer

At about 3:30 the soundhceck could be heard coming from an open upstairs window,
and, to our delight, the first song was "Tough Mama," followed by "Baby Blue," "Dignity," and another shot at "Baby Blue." Of course, I've learned over the years
that the fact that he soundchecked Tough Mama actually meant that it wouldn't
be played for months, if at all. You do hear strange things at soundchecks from
time to time - but it was still cool to hear

Review by Dan Maloney

This is my first attempt so I will be brief. The venue was pretty cool. Very laid back security. Lines were short. Good temperature. Sound was not great in all spots. However, after walking around, I settled into a great spot. Nice feel from the start. The Wicked Messenger was a nice surprise for an opener and they rocked it quite well. Highlights for me were the more upbeat tunes. Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum really got the crowd going. Memphis Blues was right on. Down Along The Cove was definitely the highlight of my night. It had a wonderful grove going from start to finish. They could have jammed it another 5 minutes and the people would have loved it. Moonlight had a feel like we were in a small intimate smoky club. It worked perfectly. Every Grain Of Sand was bittersweet and gripping. The crowd was in awe for this one. Summer Days is a solid rocker to leave the stage with. Bob and the Band took a quick bow. Bob had a sweet outfit on tonight. The encore was solid as usual. I really enjoyed Cat's In The Well. The crowd favorite of the night was Like A Rolling Stone. Watchtower closed the show. All in all, a very nice experience. As usual, I can't wait for more.

Review by Milwaukee Journal

Like many Dylan performances in recent decades, Friday night's show was another mixed bag in terms of its success and inspiration: Dylan's singing was as stark, highly stylized and marked by garbled syntax as much as ever in recent times, so to feel the effect of all that verbal emphasis it's best to be fairly familiar with the singer's back catalog; then the connection between the songs and how they came across on the album and what you hear coming at you live and in concert is established more quickly and comes more clearly.

Review by Joe Cox
Always a good start to a show.2)Mr. Tambourine Man This one quickly eased me back into reality. I've heard "Tambourine Man" about as many times as I'd really like to. Still, it doesn't really grate on me as much as some of the more predictable songs do. Basically my barometer on this song is "Does Bob play harp?" If he breaks out the harp, it really gets memorable. He didn't break out the harp. It was a pretty solid performance, but nothing earth-shattering.3)Masters of War UGH! Again, not a favorite of mine. I much prefer "It's Alright Ma" or "Desolation Row" in this slot. I wasn't too impressed with the large numbers of deadheads who were dancing in the aisles to this one. I mean really; I can see dancing to "T-Man" but "Masters of War"? Such a danceable song; "I hope that you die" (pirouette... funny hand movement...). I appreciate the fact that these people really enjoy the music, but dancing to this song really doesn't gel with me too well. This was a pretty nice performance of this one. Probably the best version of it I've seen; which is just as much a testament to how mediocre I think it is as the particular greatness of this performance. Still, the guitars found a nice little groove together and made this at least mildly impressive.4)It's All Over Now, Baby Blue I've heard versions of this song range from horrendous to brilliant. This one was more toward the brilliant edge of the spectrum. Unlike the last time I heard it, Bob more or less got the lyrics and timing right.

Review by Eric Franecki
Dylan and Simon together on stage, that was just as amazing as it gets. They opened with "The Sound of Silence" witch for only the second time all night Dylan played his harp. "That'll Be The Day" was the first song that the whole crowd new and got into, I personally thought it was a good cover for the two. "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" was a quite decent finish. After that the set change started and that's the last i saw of Dylan, seemed too short,I was hoping that Dylan and Simon would jam some more, but of coarse that didn't happen. Simon put on a pretty good show also. I felt i got my $60 worth. I saw Dylan once in my life, hopefully its more but only time will tell.
