Review by Steinar Daler
I did not expected Bob and the band to be better than last night, but indeed they were. During the same old introduction a lady fainted just in front of the stage and the security people got there to help her. That gave room for another woman to jump up on stage, suddenly standing right in front of Bob. Baron soon took her away, but Bob just smiled and started a very good Rainy Day Woman. I said he was ON from the start the first night, but to night he was more ON than I have seen him in a long time. Lay, Lady, Lay was next up, to everybodys delight. And then JUST LIKE TOM THUMBS BLUES. I write it in capital letters, because I have never heard a better version of that song. To me this was the number one highlight of the 3 shows, but soon there where more highlights to come. As in Tom Thumb's his singing on Senor was something we have not been used to in recent years. Just beautiful! Donny's lap steel work was tremendous. The fourth song was also new for this tour, a real great version of The Levve's gonna break. The best version I have heard, much more dynamic than usual. Then on to a song he had played the previous nights - Spirit on the water. Good and nice harmonicaplaying from Bob as well. Then another highligh - Positively 4th street. A really great imrovement on last years versions. He sings it clearly - no barking at all.

No more comments on yesterdays songs except for Workingman's Blues that was even better than the recorded version tonight. Then on to the 8 new songs for tonight. Cat's in the Well was a good start but nothing special. I'll be your baby tonight was great, we always like to hear that song. Blind Willie McTell was awsome, sung with feeling and conviction. Things have changed was not great but certainly done well, especially his phrasing, as on all the songs tonight. Then on to Visions of Johanna, definitely the highlight of the show. Wordperfect. We both studied him in binoculars and he was smiling and seemd proud of what he was doing. After Visions and between some of the other songs it seemed like Bob wanted to say something in the microphone, but maybe it was only his high energy as he paced around the area. When the deal goes down was close to the recorded version. We had hoped for Mississippi tonight and got it.

His phrasing and singing was perfect. Ancors without LARS and Watchtower were also great. Both Thunder on the mountain and Blowing in the wind were good to hear. Overall a good solid concert. What I will remember best was Wokingman's blues and Thin man - really great and for sure I will remember Danny's guitarplaying. Never heard it better.

Man of
Mystery

Dylan kicks off U. S. tour
at a more intimate venue

Review by Bill Curruthers
The wait was worth it. Bob came out and played for about an hour and forty-five minutes. To my surprise - and thrill - most of that time was spent with Bob behind the keyboards playing piano! He opened the show with a spirited run through Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. Bob and band were into it from the very first note with Bob and Tony smiling at each other through out the show. After completing the edgy opener Bob shifted gears and went into a reflective Tell Me That It Isn't True. This would be a formula that Bob and band would follow through-out the night. They would get the crowd rocking on the verge of insanity and then shift down into a melodic, melancholy number. After Tell Me That It Isn't True, Bob started banging again on the piano and blowing his harp and the crowd's mind again, this time with a very nice version of Tomstone Blues. The band was on fire with this number this was definitely the first sign of things to come. Freddie Koella is a fantastic addition to the band. His guitar playing blows away anything Bob has had with him since G.E. Smith. The way that Koella and Campbell play off of each other is really a treat. Tombstone Blues was awesome.

Review by Eben Hansby
Sugar Baby: The curtains behind Bob were lit up with a purple light. Over the purple lights were greenish-blue lights that swirled around in a water-like effect. Sugar Baby started up and I must say I didn't like it as much as I did at the Seattle show last October. At the Seattle show, Sugar Baby was the highlight. Here, it just didn't have the same power. Maybe it has to do with the drums? George plays drums on Sugar Baby, but David Kemper didn't. Maybe that stood out more to me. Or maybe Bob was just more into the song at that Seattle show. Actually, around this point, I felt as though the show lost a bit of the momentum. The first half of the show was the better half in my opinion

Restless farewell

Paul Simon Page

Review by Jon Miller
Then Bob introduced Paul Simon and he came out in his fruity little hat. They did The Boxer which the local papers gave bad reviews for but I honestly thought it was one of the best performances of the night. they don't sound as bad together as everyone says. Bob played a beautiful harp solo. They followed with That'll be The Day and the Wanderer. Not so impressive ut oh well Knockin on Heavens door was last and they did it with Bobs band thank God. I did not want to hear a reggae version of this masterpiece. They did the "OOOOhhhhh" and it sounded awesome.
