Review by Grzegorz Gras

And here came a surprise - almost no security check. They would just let us in, tear our tickets and wouldn't even bother checking us. I saw people with big cameras in front rows and the security guys paying so little attention to it. WOnderful - THANK YOU guys for that, as I managed to take 150 pictures, some of them REALLY nice!! The show started a little past 8:30 and the opener was The Wicked Messenger. After hearing that one in Berlin already, I was counting for something else but... it was good, too... A strong version of It's All Over Now, Baby Blue in this new arrangement (which I personally really like a lot - much better to me than e.g. the 2004 version which didn't sound like anything from my point of view) was a highlight for me. It was good to hear Blind Willie McTell live - there is something about that song that is almost mystical and unreal. I was counting for Desolation Row and I got it!!! My girlfriend (a second show for her... and she's just starting getting into Dylan) wanted so much to hear Ballad of a Thin Man as it's her favourite song - and she got it, too!! The rest was typical, so no point to go song by song. I think Bob was in quite a good mood (although my friend's observation was that he'd been exhausted and struggling) and was enjoying the show. Just before the encore when they came back, he'd even do a little "dance" in front of the audience.

Review by Jacques Graf
all i can say is that Dylan gives new senses, new light on almost every song he sings : Not only for us who know them perfecly ... poeple that have no idea of what they're going to see - some of them, they imagine an old tambourine man performing - they discover something quite fascinating : the birth of real live music. Even LARS - which is not usually my favorite one on stage - was a totally new story last night : i even heard glimpses to the original singing, some kind of " nobody sings Dylan like Dylan" sung by Dylan imitating Dylan ... " you got no secret to ..../ blank/.......... conceale " ( this with a smile in the voice ) the fact is that Dylan cuts off the rythm of the verses and leaves blank or gives speed in the stanzas - even does not sing the first " sugar baby " - so creating what is a new song.all i can say is that Dylan gives new senses, new light on almost every song he sings : Not only for us who know them perfecly ... poeple that have no idea of what they're going to see - some of them, they imagine an old tambourine man performing - they discover something quite fascinating : the birth of real live music. Review by Paul Denham

There were songs that kind of worked, like Highway 61 which was lively but there was no magic about the crescendo and you can't help thinking have you come to this, Bob, churning out the same stuff every night? By the end, his crisp annunciation had fractured and he was doing that thing were his voice goes up at the end of lines. During the first part of the concert Dylan was leading things and driving from the front, but as the night went on he retreated behind the organ and seemed to rest more on the band. In a couple of numbers, notably It's Alright, Ma, they created a kind of wall of sound that ought to have been atmospheric but just seemed to go on a bit.

Other highlights: Down Along the Cove which quite simply motored with a furious roar. The ending of All Along the Watchtower which had Bob in stitches pointing at his drummer and sharing a joke which seemed to continue all the while that the group gathered at the front to enjoy the acclaim of the very appreciative audience. Leaving the arena, the atmosphere was great with a palpable air of contentment all around. I ran into a couple of English guys: we exchanged a few words, swapping our amazement at the brilliance of it all. Yes, the sheer brilliance of it.

It was a great show again last night. The atmosphere in Forest National was
very fine. Bob is doing a magnificent job this tour, singing his songs very
carefully and with great conviction. Freddy Koella was in splendid form
tonight doing several terrific solos, real fireworks. Koella has a very
original personal style. I got the impression that he has the potential to
grow to still greater heights in this band..

Review by Eddie Janssens

When I Paint My Masterpiece The first surprise of the evening and, even if the vast majority of the audience did not recognize this number, the early hour Bob-fans responded enthusiastically when Bob started to sing 'I left Rome and landed in Brussels'. Dylan seemed to have problems with the lyrics because he repeated this strophe once again at the end, with yet another enthusiastic reaction from the Brussels audience to follow. Also Bob did not fail to see that and could not suppress a smile on his face. And above all that… Bob had just only started a concert that was going to be a master-piece.

Review by Luis Quevedo

Things Have Changed is a winner and a welcome addition to live performances, but the surprise of the night was obviously the inclusion of If Dogs Run Free, with some very jazzy arrangements, just soooo cooooool, with Bob thoroughly enjoying the new trick he managed to produce. It has to be one of the memorable moments of the night, so out of place but yet so fresh (who knows, we may be treated to things like Sign on the Window in the future_). For the rest, the old numbers sounded rock solid, bluesy and very pleasing.

Review by Carsten Wohlfeld

Was verrrrry funky. First time that I heard the new band play this song again. Funnily enough Bob did it the last time he visited Brussels as well. The Belgian people must think he does it every night :-) Unfortunately both "You Go Your Way" and "Born In Time" were on the cuesheet but went unplayed. Bob checked his watch (!) before the song, as if he was going to say, okay, if we've played for 60 mins aleady, maybe we can skip a song?" Honestly, it was a very weird situation. Did he ever do that before? Band intros followed, the only time he talked all night, apart from two "thanks Ev'rybodys".
